From Aemmerliweg to Zwinglistrasse

In Zurich there are over 2500 streets , paths and squares. With the web app "From Aemmerliweg to Zwinglistrasse"  you can see them all by means of profiles.Did you know, for example, that Bürkliplatz used to be called Stadthausplatz, and that Bäckerstrasse once had the name Zürcherstrasse? And have you ever heard that most street names were named after field names, but many also named place names and personalities?You will also find out here things like that in the Wehntalerstrasse most of the inhabitants live, namely 4675.

This web app , which works well on the desktop as well as on the smartphone, was developed by  the NZZ storytelling team  in collaboration with web developers Webkid.It combines historical information about the Zurich street names and interesting facts such as the length of the street, and the number of residents in 2015.On the smartphone, you can use the app as a city guide. The "Nearby" function displays to the user the roads in its immediate vicinity.
