Systematic planning: JR East Japan has positioned it as a small community planning, not just a historical building renovation. The transformation is divided into several parts: including the JR Bansei Bridge Station building, the old bridge structure renovation, the 2 storey prospect platform construction, the 1 storey roof landscape, the space development under the bridge, and the square design.
Stealth addition:
The north side of the project is next to the Kanda River, and the river resources are utilized. The end of the trail are expanded into half outdoor space to accommodate more people.
The south side has a distance from the building to form an introverted commercial street, so that creates an outward swing area to facilitate temporary events.
Using concrete and brick in comparison with old and new ones, concrete is only used for structural reinforcement.
Delicate alcove: There are many alcove at the old station, which is reopened this time. When these concave rooms are opened, the store can be linked to form the inner loop. The arch is decorated with fair faced concrete. After many years, the platform staircase is reopened, led by light strips, pointing to a roof. A large screen is also arranged on the wall of the corridor, which tells the history of the building.
100-year ideal: MIKAN also looks forward to the ideal of the next 100 years: to form a large public space with rich activities through different elevations.
