Introduction
The Traffic Information Platform collects real-time data on traffic congestion and roadworks. Whether an accident is disrupting traffic or an elk is spotted on the motorway, the system is quickly monitoring the situation. The successful outcome of this project included products that are now sold by Destia Traffic to neighboring countries.
Reason to Be Selected
In 2005, Destia, Logica and Forum Virium Helsinki started a project aimed at developing a platform for collecting and distributing real-time traffic information to service providers. The information can also be distributed through an organization's own service platform to mobile devices.
Highlights:
The Traffic Information Platform contains a wide variety of traffic information, such as vehicle volumes, road weather and real-time digital images. Information is generated also by license plate identification systems which indicate travel times between different locations. The large volumes of information passing through the platform are utilized by navigation manufacturers, authorities and the media.Details
Road users report exceptional situations
Traffic information is obtained using different types of sensors and measuring devices, as well as additionally reported incident information such as accidents, roadworks and reports of elks on motorways. While most of this additional information comes from the authorities, ordinary road users can also report exceptional incidents.

Recommended
The Traffic Information Platform project lasted for one year. After its completion, Destia Traffic used the project platform to develop and sell its own traffic information products in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries. Destia Traffic has also supplied platform data to the development projects that have emerged within the SME pool of Forum Virium Helsinki.
