Reason to Be Selected

The vision of the project is to transform the Hilversum Media Park in the Netherlands into a dynamic, premier future media content creation base. The design will adapt to new technologies and transforming consumer needs, including applicable programmatic, space and infrastructure development models that will prepare the Hilversum Media Park for future growth. According to this vision, the phased transformation of existing regions and new measures are aimed at changes that have already occurred in the media landscape, while future short-term and long-term strategies provide solutions to situations that have not yet occurred.

Highlights:

A new social ecosystem that focuses on innovation and culture as the core of the community.

Details

New technologies create new possibilities for the production and consumption of media content. The new Hilversum Media Park will adapt to this changing environment and attract the best young people to ensure their continued success. With these goals in mind, UNStudio's campus design proposes five “development pillars”.

Industrial Hotspots: The City Vision aims to create a media industry hotspot by promoting cross-cutting links between independent media departments in the past. VR developers, filmmakers and many different types of creative people work side by side to share knowledge and innovation. In addition, the park has media and technology-focused educational facilities that will encourage young professionals to combine knowledge and work and position the media park as a diversified industry and content creation center.

Public interface: Media innovation also provides a new way for contemporary audiences to participate and interact with content. As a result, the future Hilversum Media Park aims to create a vibrant public interface that blends these changing conditions by offering a variety of innovative facilities. Open-air studios, meeting spaces and increased interaction models will create a social ecosystem that will lead innovation and bring interested groups together to build small communities.

Vibrant community: Creative talents pursue a rich, dynamic, 24-hour uninterrupted lifestyle. Therefore, UNStudio's urban vision includes facilities that provide these capabilities. Catering and local facilities will meet the daily needs of users, while providing modern, modular, regional, short-term living accommodation for young professionals, seeding the creation of a new campus-specific community.

Technology: Currently, Hilversum Media Park has an unparalleled digital infrastructure that makes it a leader in communications. In the future, media technology prototypes and pilot projects can be tested on-site, and the sensory network that is considered for introduction can alert users to their pressure awareness. In addition, dedicated spaces for researching technologies such as holography and artificial intelligence will be established. Facilities and buildings will be upgraded to smart networks to alleviate all types of shortages and respond in real time to possible needs. Applications designed for the media campus will provide users with information on climate, navigation, available meeting space, employment opportunities, and more.

A healthy environment: Hilversum's existing green city features have been integrated into the park's future vision and are a contributing factor to its healthy environment. UNStudio's vision of the city extends the green plant to the west side of the site and into the park, further connecting the media park to its surroundings. In addition, the vision incorporates traditional health facilities such as sports and entertainment districts and introduces more innovative solutions such as urban farms.

Conclusions

Detailed planning measures are developed to help achieve the city's vision of the intended goals.
