Introduction
Restoration of street lighting with environmental friendly light sources.Højbro Square has won the Danish Outdoorlighting Prize in 2008. Energy-friendly LED solutions are used for illuminating the trees and the Riderstatue.
Reason to Be Selected
Subjective evaluations of 25 lighting installations in copenhagen have been carried out in november-december 1970. the appraisals were made in both dry and in wet conditions of the roads.
Highlights:
The appraised characteristics were level of luminance (or brightness), uniformity, and glare. The luminance characteristics (mean and minimum luminances, longitudinal and transverse uniformities) were measured during each appraisal tour by taking photographs of the roads.Details
The density of negatives was later measured in the laboratory and converted into luminance values. The accuracy of this method proved to be unsatisfactory, and has made it impossible to draw such far-reaching conclusions as had been hoped. In general, however, the results are in good agreement with those from previous investigations. High quality installations require a luminance level of about 2 cd/msquared and a minimum luminance of about 1 cd/m squared. The longitudinal uniformity is much more important for the appraisal of uniformity than the overall uniformity and the transverse uniformity. The latter has practically no influence on the appraisals. The longitudinal uniformity should be about 0.7 to 0.8 to ensure a high quality. The appraisals of uniformity on dry and on moist roads showed the same dependence on the physical parameters. No tendency of the observers' adaption to wet conditions could be observed.
